Two manufacturers operating in Cortland County are in line for state aid toward expansion projects after Empire State Development’s (ESD) board of directors approved a round of grants Dec. 20.
The board in charge of the state’s economic-development agency approved an Economic Development Fund grant for up to $350,000 toward Pyrotek, Inc.’s purchase and outfitting of a 141,000-square-foot building in Cortland.
The expansion will allow the company, which develops, manufactures, and sells high-temperature materials for industrial use, to add product lines, increase capacity for existing lines, eliminate high-cost outsourcing, and improve production efficiency. It is estimated to lead to 68 new jobs and help retain 42 jobs.

ESD’s board also gave a green light to a $100,000 grant to help Cortland Plastics International, LLC with an equipment purchase. The extrusion blow-molding plastics manufacturer needed new equipment after adding customers. ESD’s grant is expected to help create 10 new jobs, help retain 45 jobs, and join $580,000 of private investment in the expansion.
The two grants bound for Cortland County were part of a round of nine projects approved for a total of $10.69 million in funding. ESD estimates the nine projects will create up to 232 new jobs and help retain 1,854 jobs in the state.
