SYRACUSE — The Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities received a $500,000 donation from PepsiCo, Inc. on Wednesday.
The contribution brought the total donation from PepsiCo to $1.5 million over the last three years. The donations are the result of Pepsi’s Dream Machine Recycling Initiative.
The more bottles and cans recycled in Dream Machine kiosks and bins across the nation and in schools, the more money the company gives the boot camp.

The program began in 2007 at Syracuse University’s Martin J. Whitman School of Management and offers entrepreneurship training for post-9/11 disabled veterans. It has since spread to eight other schools including Texas A&M University, Purdue University, the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of Connecticut, Louisiana State University, Florida State University, and Cornell University.
“The [boot camp] provides entrepreneurship education to post-9/11 veterans with disabilities at no cost,” program founder Mike Haynie said in a news release. “We are proud that over the past three years we have continually been able to achieve that goal with the support of PepsiCo and the Dream Machine Recycling Initiative.”
