The U.S. Labor Department reported Thursday that nationwide the number of people filing initial unemployment claims rose to 281,000 for the week ending April 4 from the previous week’s revised level of 267,000 claims.
The four-week moving average for jobless claims was 282,250, down by 3,000 from the previous week. This is the lowest level for this average since June 3, 2000, when it was 281,500, according to a Department of Labor news release issued today.
The national figures are seasonally adjusted.
