AUBURN, N.Y. — Cayuga Community College is offering a new, one-year, event-management certificate beginning in the fall semester, which starts Aug. 31.
The college has developed the certificate program to address a “demand” for its event-planning class, according to a news release. Cayuga Community College also wants to offer a “flexible” way for working students to “develop a new or enhance an existing skill set.”
Some people interested in event planning may already have a job, the school contends, so it decided to make the certificate program available “fully” online.

Cayuga Community College will offer some of the courses in classroom settings on campus as well, the school said in response to a CNYBJ inquiry.
“Through the years, we have noticed a growing interest in our event planning course,” Amy Valente, assistant professor of business at the college, said in its release. “And our students have thrived in the experiential learning element of the class through the start-to-finish planning of real events in our community. This certificate program is a logical extension of that coursework to offer students more in-depth knowledge and exposure to event management as a career choice.”
The school is offering certificate classes over the course of two consecutive semesters, with students taking five courses each semester.
