CAMILLUS, N.Y. — Movie Tavern — a Texas–based movie theater chain offering a full bar and casual-dining menu during film viewings — has broken ground on its first New York location at the Township 5 retail/mixed-use development in Camillus.
The 48,020-square-foot facility will feature 11 movie screens, and is expected to be staffed by about 150 full- and part-time employees when it opens in May 2016, according to a company news release.
“We will see tremendous growth for the Movie Tavern brand in 2016 and are thrilled to welcome the Syracuse area to our roster,” Danny DiGiacomo, Movie Tavern’s director of marketing, said in the release. “We’re eager to give movie goers the dine-in experience they’ve been wanting…”

Patrons will be able to reserve the stadium-style, reclining seats, and order meals, cocktails, and snacks throughout the screening of movies using a call-button, according to the release.
The facility will feature a full bar, offering craft beer, cocktails, and wine. Movie-goers age 16 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 21.
Movie Tavern was founded in 2001, and currently has 21 theaters spread across nine states. It is owned by Louisiana–based Southern Theatres, LLC, which acquired it in 2013, the release stated. Southern Theatres is a portfolio company of the private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson.
