SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse Hancock International Airport will use federal funding of more than $2 million to reconstruct the airport’s deicing-containment facility.
The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) airport-improvement program (AIP), U.S. Senators Charles Schumer (D–N.Y.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D–N.Y.) announced in a news release issued Thursday. The FAA administers the funding.
“When it comes to battling snow and ice during harsh winters, you’d have trouble finding an airport that does it better than Hancock. This new federal investment will enhance the airport’s deicing operations, which help keep runways clear and flights on-time throughout all four seasons,” Schumer, the U.S. Senate Minority Leader, said.

The airport-improvement-program (AIP) provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems. Funds obligated for the AIP are drawn from the airport and airway trust fund, which is supported by user fees, fuel taxes, and other similar revenue sources, per the release.
