NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. — The New Hartford Police Department announced on Wednesday the arrest of a Sauquoit–based contractor for allegedly stealing contracting materials from a home at which he was supposed to be completing a renovation project.
New Hartford Police say that in July 2018 they responded to a residence for a report of a larceny. The homeowner told police that he had hired a contractor to complete a home-renovation project. While the project was being completed, the homeowner noticed construction materials missing. A police investigation determined that the contractor, Robert E. Carey, 49, was returning materials for cash without the permission of the homeowner.
New Hartford Police on April 9 arrested Carey on an outstanding arrest warrant. He was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and first-degree falsifying business records, both felonies. Carey was arraigned in the Town of New Hartford Court and is scheduled to reappear at a later date, the police department said in a release.
