PEB has modeled the job-signing event after letter-of-intent signings for high-school athletes who have been recruited to play a sport at colleges and universities. Students will sign letters of intent with their hiring companies in attendance, while receiving hats and other items that feature their company logos.
“The goal of Job Signing Day is to create the straightest path from crossing the stage in high school or college to a job at a company upon graduation,” Joe Vargo, executive director of PEB, said in the release. “From the start, we ensured employers that if they worked with us to mentor these students that they would be first in line to hire them. Well, that day has arrived!”
The job-signing event is a new addition to PEB’s annual awards program that awards “thousands of dollars” in scholarships to Central New York students pursuing an education and a career in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM).
The PEB awards program will start with registration and a breakfast at 7:30 a.m. The overall program will culminate with the job-signing event that is scheduled to begin around 9 a.m.
Prior to the job signing, PEB will announce the eight CNY STEM scholarship winners and present their awards. PEB will also use the event to recognize other deserving students, mentors and businesses and community leaders for their efforts and achievements in STEM, the organization said.
