MARCY, N.Y. — Oneida County announced it will fund a $7 million construction project to improve the SUNY-Marcy Parkway in order to support Cree’s development at the Marcy Nanocenter Site.
Durham, North Carolina–based Cree, Inc. (NASDAQ: CREE) announced last fall that it plans to create more than 600 full-time, “highly-skilled” technician and engineering positions at the Marcy Nanocenter on the SUNY Polytechnic Institute campus. It also plans to spend $1 billion to build the “world’s largest silicon carbide fabrication facility” at that location.
Oneida County will issue bonds for up to $7 million to fund the project, which will include the formation of a T-intersection, the installation of reversed curves and retaining walls and water main relocation.

Providing improved access to the Marcy Nanocenter Site is essential to ensuring Cree’s success and setting the stage for its future growth.”
Oneida County, Mohawk Valley EDGE, and the Town of Marcy commissioned a feasibility study to redesign the intersection of Edic Road and the northernmost most ring road entrance to the Marcy Nanocenter Site, as well as the Edic and Mulaney Road intersection.
The reconstruction of the SUNY-Marcy Parkway is required to remove the major grade change in the road between the Edic and Hazard Road intersection and the Edic and Mulaney Road intersection. It’s also needed to improve the sight distance along Edic Road and the intersection sight distance from Hazard Road, the county said.
