SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse basketball (14-11, 7-7 ACC) looks to spring an upset and stop its losing skid when the Orange visit the No. 11 Louisville Cardinals (21-5, 12-3 ACC) on Wednesday night.
The game tips off at 7:01 p.m. at the KFC Yum! Center and will be televised on ESPN. Dan Shulman and Dick Vitale will be on the call.
Syracuse (No. 64 in the NCAA’s NET Rankings) enters the game following another heartbreaking loss, dropping an 80-77 decision at Florida State as the Orange again squandered a lead late in the contest. Syracuse has lost two straight games and four of its last five to virtually extinguish its already slim NCAA Tournament hope. In fact, the Orange have more work to do just to make the NIT at this point.

Louisville enters the Syracuse game after two straight losses of its own. The Cardinals lost 77-62 at Clemson last Saturday, after falling 64-58 at Georgia Tech, three days earlier. Jordan Nwora leads Louisville in scoring (18.2 points a game). The 6’7 junior forward from Buffalo has made 64 three-pointers this season and is shooting 42 percent beyond the arc. The Cards’ other long-range marksman is 6’0 senior guard Ryan McMahon, who has dropped 56 three-point shots and is shooting nearly 43 percent from deep.
Wednesday’s contest is the 29th all-time meeting between Syracuse and Louisville, with the Cardinals leading the series 18-10. The Orange, however, have won the last two matchups, including a 69-49 win at the Carrier Dome a year ago.
ESPN’s College Basketball Power Index (BPI) gives Louisville an 85.4 percent chance of beating Syracuse. The projected point differential is 11.1 points. The sports analytics website TeamRankings.com says the Cardinals have an 82.7 percent chance of winning the game. That same site projects that Syracuse’s current probability of making the NCAA Tournament is now just 5.7 percent. BPI gives the Orange only a 3 percent chance of dancing.
