SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse Fire Department says it has been granted an extension of the deadline to register for the upcoming civil-service exam for the title of firefighter.
The exam deadline has been extended to Wednesday (Dec. 13). Those who pass the exam are added to the civil-service list that the Syracuse Fire Department uses to hire recruit firefighters. Taking and passing the exam is the first step to becoming a Syracuse firefighter.
Those wishing to register for the exam can do so by visiting the Onondaga County Office of Personnel at the Civic Center on the 13th floor.

Candidates must meet several requirements to qualify to take the exam. To be eligible to take the exam candidates must be 18 years of age; have a high-school diploma or GED equivalent; be a resident of Onondaga County; and have a valid New York State drivers’ license.
