ELMIRA, N.Y. — Anchor Glass Container Corp. (Anchor Glass) has completed a $51 million expansion of its facility in Elmira.
The company is headquartered in Tampa, Florida, per its website.
The expansion was made possible through the support of the governor’s ReCharge NY program, which provides qualifying businesses and nonprofits with lower energy costs in exchange for commitments to retain or create jobs in New York. It was also assisted by the “Southern Tier Soaring” Upstate Revitalization Initiative, the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a news release.

The recently completed expansion project includes the installation of a new flint furnace, increasing the facility’s production capabilities by 600,000 containers per day.
The Anchor Glass facility now actively produces approximately 3.7 million containers every day, largely for the beer industry, Cuomo’s office said.
It supplies customers such as Matt Brewing Company of Utica; North American Brewery of Rochester; Boston Beer Company of Boston, Massachusetts; Lion Brewery of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; and many upstate New York craft breweries, per the release.
Since 2012, the state has provided Anchor Glass 3,315 kilowatts of New York Power Authority (NYPA) hydropower through the ReCharge NY program. The power allocation was renewed for seven additional years in 2019. It is “directly tied” to the firm’s commitment to retain about 240 existing jobs.
Under the program, Anchor Glass has saved more than $4 million on electricity costs, Cuomo’s office said. Additionally, Empire State Development awarded $1.95 million in grant funding in support of the expansion project to modernize the Elmira facility. The funding was through the “Southern Tier Soaring” Upstate Revitalization Initiative.
