UTICA, N.Y. — An Advance Auto Parts store is coming to a vacant building at 1035 Mohawk St. in Utica.
Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri and Councilman Frank Meola on Tuesday announced the City’s Zoning Board of Appeals has approved use and area variances for the redevelopment of that commercial property.
The store will operate in an existing building on that property, Charles (Sonny) Greco, chief of staff for Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri, tells CNYBJ in an email.

The property was previously the site of a Rite Aid drug store and most recently a Dollar General, per the City of Utica.
Westlake Development, LLC is the applicant and project developer.
“Every corner of our great City continues to attract interest from local, regional and national developers,” Palmieri contended in a statement. “This project revitalizes a key anchor property along the Mohawk Street corridor in east Utica. Neighborhood residents brought concerns about this property to my attention and, by working collaboratively with a reputable developer, we were able to address this eyesore on their behalf.”
Westlake Development’s application to the Zoning Board of Appeals says the store will be open 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. It’ll offer complimentary services that include changing wiper blades and batteries.
The store is expected to employ between eight and 10 people, the city said.
