VIRGIL, N.Y. — Greek Peak Mountain Resort in Virgil in Cortland County says it is using terrain-based learning on the mountain this season.
Terrain-based learning (TBL) is a process for teaching beginner ski and snowboard lessons. It uses purpose-built snow features to help the guest learn the movements, sensations, and body positioning needed to ski and snowboard, per the Greek Peak announcement.
Greek Peak describes TBL as an “award-winning, revolutionary” method of introducing new guests to snow sports that make learning to ski or snowboard “easier and more fun.”

“Terrain Based Learning removes the traditional fears and anxiety from learning to ski and snowboard and puts the focus on fun,” Wes Kryger, president of Greek Peak Mountain Resort, said in a release.
Kryger added that the Learning Center at Greek Peak will be available for station or self-guided teaching through the use of the TBL course.
The Cortland County winter sports venue has five terrain-based learning stations in its Learning Center zone near chair 3. The stations include the flats, the mini-pipe, the rollers, banked turns, and the perfect slope, Greek Peak said.
