BIG FLATS, N.Y. — The New York State Police announced they have arrested an Elmira man after he tried to use counterfeit $50 bills to buy merchandise at the Kohl’s in Big Flats and another area store.
On Monday, the State Police received a complaint of a man trying to present fake $50 bills to purchase goods at the Kohl’s in Big Flats. The manager of Kohl’s told police that the person was also in the store illegally, as he had been previously issued a no-trespass order.
A description of the individual was given to the cops, and the man was located at the Dandy Mini Mart in Big Flats. Troopers say they observed Brandon McArthur, age 35 of Elmira, go into the Dandy Mini Mart and attempt to buy items with the counterfeit $50 bills. All told, McArthur was found to be in possession of $500 worth of bogus bills and methamphetamine.
