SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon on Saturday afternoon reported that the county suffered 12 COVID-19-related deaths in the last day and 447 coronavirus cases.
He said nine of the people died in the hospital — males ages 74, 66, 62, and 57; and females ages 96, 83, 82, 82, and 79. Another three individuals passed away in state-licensed nursing homes, for which there is no available demographic data.
Of the 447 new infections, 37 were senior-care facility cases. The number of Onondaga County residents hospitalized fell by fve from 313 to 308. There were 31 new admissions and 27 discharges, in addition to the nine deaths.

“We have had a Crushing Day,” McMahon wrote on Twitter. “This is a very difficult day and tough to find anything positive.”
However, the county executive did note the county had fewer cases in the past week than the week prior and said Sunday’s totals were expected to be lower. McMahon also related the news that SUNY Upstate Medical University had vaccinated all its eligible frontline health-care workers and that Crouse Health was vaccinating its workers Saturday.
