The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded funding to airports servicing markets in Central New York, the North Country, and the Southern Tier.
They’re among a dozen facilities across upstate New York benefiting from the more than $2.4 million in funding. The money will “serve as a lifeline to local airports struggling to stay afloat after nearly a year of limited operations,” U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D–N.Y.) and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D–N.Y.) announced Tuesday.
The funds will help offset operating expenses for airports that have lost substantial revenue and require “urgent” financial support, the lawmakers said. Local airports receiving funding include the following:
