GUILDERLAND, N.Y. — New York State Police on Monday arrested an employee of a gas station at a New York State Thruway rest area between Schenectady and Albany.
Jasmine Smith, 20, of Schenectady, is accused of recording a customer’s credit card number onto her cell phone while working at the Mobil Gas Station at the Guilderland travel plaza on the Thruway and then making unauthorized purchases totaling $288.
State Police from Albany investigated after receiving a complaint of suspicious transactions that were made at the station.

Smith was taken into custody and transported to the State Police station in Albany, where she was charged with 3rd degree identity theft, 2nd degree scheme to defraud, and petit larceny — all misdemeanors. She was released with appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Guilderland Court on July 8, the State Police said.
