SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse men’s basketball team announced Sunday that its scheduled game with Georgia Tech on Wednesday, Dec. 29 has been postponed and the Orange will host Cornell instead at 7 p.m.
The Syracuse contest against the Yellow Jackets was postponed due to COVID cases in the Georgia Tech program. The two ACC teams will try to make it up later in the season.
Syracuse (5-5) and Cornell (8-2) had been originally scheduled to play last Tuesday Dec. 21, but that game was postponed after the Orange had several players test positive for COVID. The familiar foes from Central New York will now match up on Wednesday. Tickets and parking passes for the previously postponed Cornell contest will be honored for the rescheduled game.

“We appreciate the flexibility of the Cornell basketball program to be available to play this week,” Syracuse Director of Athletics John Wildhack said in a news release. “As we continue to monitor the situation locally, regionally, and nationally, we will work with ACC and public health experts to reschedule games as required to provide the best opportunity for our student-athletes to compete in a safe way.”
Syracuse and Cornell have played 124 times in the past, with the Orange leading the series 93-31. New Syracuse forward Jimmy Boeheim played for Cornell the last three times the teams met (2017-2019), before transferring to the Orange.
Before Syracuse takes on the Big Red Wednesday, it first must face another Ivy League team, the Brown Bears (8-5), on Monday evening at 6 p.m. That game replaces the previously canceled Dec. 18 Orange game against Lehigh.
