MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — A groundbreaking was held for the $19 million Community View Apartments project Tuesday in Morrisville.
The project will create 61 apartments for those age 55 and older, including 20 with supportive services for those who have experienced homelessness.
The Christopher Community, Inc. development includes a three-story building with 61 one-bedroom apartments affordable to households earning at or below 60 percent of the area median income. The 20 apartments reserved for individuals experiencing homelessness include supportive services such as home aides, personal-care attendants, skilled nursing, transportation to necessary locations, and more, through Crouse Community Center and rental subsidies funded through the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative and administered by the New York State Department of Health.

“Community View Apartments will focus on meeting the diverse needs of our residents, including seniors at risk of homelessness and unstably housed in the Morrisville community,” Christopher Community President/CEO Justin Rudgick said.
The building is designed with features that promote aging in place including a centrally located elevator, handrails on both sides of the hallway, roll-in showers and grab bars, adjustable/removable cabinetry, wide hallways and doorways, non-slip surfaces, lever handles, improved lighting, no-step entries, and an emergency call system.
Building amenities will include a community room, wellness room with fitness equipment, laundry facilities, computer facilities, free building-wide Wi-Fi, bike storage, and an outdoor patio.
Financing for the project includes $12 million in federal low-income housing tax credits, a $3.8 million subsidy from New York State Homes and Community Renewal, and $2.8 million from the New York State Office for Temporary and Disability Assistance’s Homeless Housing Assistance Program. NYSERDA is expected to provide $244,000.
