Syracuse enters the Clemson game following a 72-62 win at Notre Dame last Saturday afternoon. The Orange overcame a first-half deficit and eventually pulled away for an important road win in their ACC opener. Syracuse uncharacteristically shot the ball well from the outside, making 12 three-pointers in 29 attempts (41 percent).

Clemson enters Wednesday night’s matchup fresh off an 87-68 loss at No. 1 Duke in both teams’ league opener. The Tigers were hurt by turnovers in losing for the first time in five games. Clemson’s leading scorer is graduate guard Marcquise Reed, who averages 19.6 points per game, which ranks him fourth in the ACC.

What’s at stake for Syracuse?

This a big game for both Syracuse and Clemson as they each find themselves on the proverbial NCAA bubble. The Orange currently sit at No. 51 in the NET Rankings, the NCAA’s new tool for selecting and seeding tournament teams, and the Tigers reside at No. 54. Syracuse did well to notch a road win against the Irish, a team it was slightly favored to beat. Now, the Orange need to keep the momentum going by taking out a team in its same predicament. This is the first of two meetings between Syracuse and Clemson, and it’s critical that the Cuse win at least one of them.

Wednesday’s game is the 8th all-time meeting between Syracuse and Clemson, with the Tigers holding a 4-3 lead in the series. The Orange, however, have won the last two contests — a pair of nail biters by one point and three points, respectively.
