SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University has appointed Maureen Casey as COO.
She began her new duties on Monday, the nonprofit said in a news release.
In this newly formed role at the IVMF, Casey will be responsible for all aspects of the institute’s daily operations, mission, personnel, and financial operations.

Casey will report to Mike Haynie, IVMF executive director, and serve as the IVMF’s senior management executive, responsible for developing and directing its long-term budget planning and forecasting.
Casey will also coordinate IVMF operations, and support organizational activities that “cultivate existing relationships with public and private funders,” according to the release.

She is passionate and committed to our mission of service to veterans and military families,” Haynie said in the release. “Maureen also brings a wealth of management and leadership experience to the Institute, that will help the IVMF continue to grow and evolve in response to future opportunities to serve those who have served the nation in uniform.”
Prior to joining the IVMF, Casey led JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s (NYSE: JPM) efforts to develop a “comprehensive, firm-wide strategy” to assist members of the military, veterans and their families, particularly in the areas of employment, housing, education and philanthropy, the IVMF said.
As a managing director, Casey oversaw the firm’s office of military and veterans affairs, which was responsible for the 100,000 Jobs Mission.
The New York City–based bank describes the initiative as “a commitment with other companies to hire 200,000 veterans by 2020.”
The office was also responsible for the Chase Home Awards program, described as a “commitment by the firm to award 1,000 mortgage-free homes to deserving veterans through its nonprofit partners.”
Under Casey’s leadership, the Mission initiative grew to include more than 190 companies, hired more than 240,000 veterans, and “positioned JPMorgan as a national leader in veteran employment,” the IVMF contended in the release.
Prior to JPMorgan Chase, Casey was a senior vice president with Giuliani Partners LLC, the global consulting firm that former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani formed.
Before that, from 1997 to 2002, Casey worked for the New York City Police Department (NYPD). She started as counsel to the first deputy commissioner and later was appointed the NYPD’s deputy commissioner for policy and planning.
