SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse men’s basketball announced on Thursday it has scheduled a non-conference home game against Green Bay on Tuesday, Dec. 8.

The Orange and the Phoenix have played two previous times, with Syracuse leading the series, 2-0. The teams last met on Dec. 16, 2000, a game the Orange won 69-57. Syracuse also faced Green Bay in the second round of the 1994 NCAA Tournament, with the Orange winning, 64-59.

Green Bay, a member of the Horizon League, was 17-16 last season, including 11-7 in conference play. The Phoenix reached the semifinals of the Horizon League Tournament, where they lost to Northern Kentucky, 80-69.

Green Bay parted ways with its head coach of five years, Linc Darner, after the season. Will Ryan was hired as Green Bay head coach on June 7. He comes to the Phoenix staff after one season as head coach of Division II Wheeling University in West Virginia. He is the son of former Wisconsin Badgers head coach Bo Ryan and has 15 years of experience as a Division I assistant coach.

Syracuse was 18-14 last season and had won its first ACC Tournament game over North Carolina before the coronavirus pandemic ended the college basketball season. Syracuse returns four of five starters, including junior guard Buddy Boeheim (15.3 points per game).
