ROME, N.Y. — Rome Memorial Hospital announced it has named Allan Chrysler director of emergency management and security.
Chrysler has served as the hospital’s disaster preparedness coordinator since 2007 and is a graduate of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Master Exercise Practitioner (MEP) program.
In his new role, Chrysler will oversee security throughout the hospital, including updating current security policies and procedures.

“Allan’s extensive training and experience in preparing organizations to respond to all types of emergency situations from natural disasters to life-threatening security incidents makes him a natural fit for this position,” David Jabs, VP of support services at Rome Memorial Hospital, said in a news release. “His expertise will be invaluable as we continue to review our existing security plans and update them to meet today’s changing world.”
Chrysler stresses the importance of anticipating potential problems and planning a response in advance.
“We live in an ever-changing world with complex problems and the real possibility of threats from a number of sources,” he said in the release. “The key to a successful security plan is very similar to a successful disaster preparedness plan, in that it takes planning, foresight and the ability to put the right people in the right places to diffuse a situation as quickly as possible.”
He acknowledges that planning for every scenario is impossible “Unfortunately, planning can only take you so far, but through a thorough examination of our facility, we can identify our strengths and opportunities to make us as prepared as we can be,” he added.
Before joining Rome Memorial Hospital in 2007, Chrysler was a member of the New York State Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. He has served as an emergency medical technician, paramedic, and emergency services administrator. Chrysler is also an instructor for the New York State Office of Emergency Management.
He is also a certified health emergency professional (or CHEP), a certified emergency disaster professional (or CEDP), and certified hospital emergency coordinator.
Chrysler has a bachelor’s degree in emergency management and public health from Empire State College and an associate degree in emergency medical services from Mohawk Valley Community College, according to his LinkedIn page.
