GEDDES, N.Y. — The proposed state budget includes money to upgrade the stages at the Expo Center at the New York State Fairgrounds for year-round festivals and music events.

The proposed $252 billion spending plan — which Gov. Kathy Hochul outlined on Tuesday — includes $35 million for capital projects at the State Fairgrounds, per the executive budget briefing book, which was forwarded to media outlets.

The venue — which hosts large-gathering events such as graduations — will again be the site of the upcoming three-day Winter Fair on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1-2.

The Expo Center opened at the beginning of the 2018 New York State Fair in the town of Geddes.

The 136,000-square-foot facility is the “largest indoor events space north of New York City between Boston and Cleveland,” the governor’s office said at that time. The Expo Center increased the amount of available indoor space on the Fairgrounds to more than 450,000 square feet.
