New York farms produced 143.2 million eggs in December, up slightly from 143.1 million eggs in the year-ago period, the USDA recently reported.
The total number of layers in the Empire State in December averaged 5.51 million, down 1 percent from the year-prior month.
New York egg production per 100 layers totaled 2,597 eggs in December, up 1 percent from 2,571 eggs in December 2016.
In neighboring Pennsylvania, egg production increased 2 percent to 718.4 million eggs in December from 703.4 million eggs a year earlier, the USDA reported.
