New York corn production rose nearly 19 percent in 2023, USDA reports

New York farms produced 95.4 million bushels of corn for grain in 2023, up almost 19 percent from more than 80.2 million bushels in 2022. That’s according to a USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) crop-production summary issued on Jan. 12.

The total yield per acre in the Empire State averaged 159 bushels per acre in 2023, up 17 bushels per acre, or 12 percent, from 142 bushels the year before, the USDA NASS said. Area harvested for grain corn totaled 600,000 acres last year, up 6 percent from 565,000 acres in 2022.

U.S. corn production increased more than 12 percent to over 15.3 billion bushels in 2023 from 13.65 billion bushels the year prior, the USDA reported.
