OWEGO — Lockheed Martin’s Owego site will perform work over the next six years on a $686 million contract involving sales of MH-60R Seahawk helicopters to Denmark.
Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. of Stratford, Conn., a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), will manufacture the helicopters and then ship them to Owego where Lockheed will provide and install the aircrafts’ mission systems and cockpits.
The first helicopter will be delivered in 2016 with another eight to follow by 2018. Denmark is the second country to buy Seahawks following Australia’s purchase of 24 helicopters in 2011, according to Lockheed, which employs 2,700 people in Owego.
