Another busy tax filing season is behind us and with a return to normalcy this year, without significant processing delays at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), we can look forward.
East Seneca Turnpike (State Route 173) will be closed to traffic between South Salina Street and East Brighton Ave. in the city of Syracuse beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday (Aug. 23) through 6 a.m. on Monday (Aug. 26).
NYSDOT needs the closure to erect steel on the Interstate 81 (I-81) southbound bridge over East Seneca Turnpike as part of the I-81 viaduct-replacement project.
The department advises drivers traveling eastbound on East Seneca Turnpike to follow the signed detour that directs traffic to north on South Salina Street to east on East Brighton Avenue.
Drivers traveling west on East Seneca Turnpike are advised to follow the signed detour that directs traffic to north on East Brighton Avenue, to the I-81 northbound on-ramp, to exit 17 (South Salina Street/Brighton Avenue), to west on Calthrop Avenue, to south on South Salina Street.
Motorists should anticipate travel delays and build extra travel time into their schedules.
Airport Boulevard
NYSDOT says eastbound traffic on Airport Boulevard (Colonel Eileen Collins Boulevard) will be crossed over to westbound lanes between South Bay Road and the Airport Boulevard on-ramp to I-81 northbound beginning Monday (Aug. 26) at 7 a.m.
NYSDOT says the crossover is necessary for a bridge-rehabilitation project and is expected to be in place through the end of November.
Oversized loads will be restricted from traveling on the bridge, the department noted.
Additionally, Exit 27 (Syracuse Airport) on I-81 southbound to Airport Boulevard eastbound will be closed. Drivers are advised to follow the signed detour to exit 26 (Mattydale), to south on State Route 11, to north on Route 11, to I-81 northbound, to exit 27 (Syracuse Airport) to Airport Boulevard.
The Airport Boulevard westbound on-ramp to I-81 southbound will be reopened, the department noted.
