UTICA, N.Y. — The Center for Leadership Excellence (CLE) at Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) is recruiting participants for two of its professional leadership-development programs for the class of 2023.

CLE’s Board Leadership series begins Feb. 14 and runs through April. The program, in partnership with the New York Council of Nonprofits, prepares participants for board service through an understanding of board governance, best practices for high-performing boards, and nonprofit organizational structure. It’s open to those currently serving on boards as well as those interested in pursuing a board seat.

The schedule and topics are: Feb. 14, board dynamics, roles, and responsibilities; Feb. 28, running effective meetings and decision making; March 14, board building and placement; March 28, strategic directions; April 11, fundraising and resource development; and April 25, financial oversight. Sessions will be held via Zoom from 4-6 p.m. and the cost is $40 per person, per session. Participants can register for one session or the entire series. Scholarships are available through the Mele Family Fund at the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties with a Feb. 7 application deadline. Email cle@mvcc.edu for more information.

CLE’s Neighborhoods Rising runs from February to June and is designed to provide Black and Latino adults with enhanced leadership capacity and skills to address ongoing and emerging community-development changes. Participants will meet over the course of 10 evening sessions to discover what drives their passion to lead, expand their understanding of the principles of grassroots leadership, develop strategies to expand social capital, cultivate working relationships with community leaders, and build their networks to support making a positive difference in the community.

The deadline to apply is Jan. 24. Tuition is free to all participants with support from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation.
