Cazenovia College president, Tierno, to depart for job in Illinois

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. — Mark J. Tierno, president of Cazenovia College for the past 15 years, has been selected as the next president of MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois.

Tierno will assume his new post as president of MacMurray College on July 1. The presidential search process for Cazenovia’s next president is underway, the college said in a news release.

During Tierno’s tenure, Cazenovia College’s enrollment has grown by one-third and the retention percentage rates for both first-year students and the student population as a whole have more than doubled, the university boasted in the release.

Cazenovia’s student applications tripled. Fundraising activities have yielded a five-fold increase in annual gifts and grants received, including the first seven-figure foundation grants in the college’s history, the college added.

Before arriving at Cazenovia College, Tierno was the campus executive officer/campus dean and a professor of history at the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan, from 1996-2000. Before that, he was the academic dean (chief academic officer) and a professor of history and education at Kendall College in Evanston, Illinois, 1994-96.

Tierno received his bachelor’s degree in social science from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York, and earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in history at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Tierno is the author of more than a dozen scholarly articles and book chapters, the release stated.
