  • SUNY appoints Kristina Johnson as system’s 13th chancellor

    ALBANY, N.Y. — The State University of New York (SUNY) board of trustees has appointed Kristina Johnson as SUNY’s 13th chancellor.

    Johnson’s appointment as chancellor is effective Sept. 5 at an annual state salary of $560,000, SUNY said in a news release posted Monday on the system’s website.

    She’ll replace Nancy Zimpher, who announced she would retire in June following her eight-year term as chancellor.

  • New York attorney general fines 104 car dealerships for missing recall notices

    SYRACUSE, N.Y. — More than 100 auto dealerships statewide will pay a $1,000 fine for selling vehicles to New Yorkers without informing the purchaser the vehicle was under a recall.

    The recalls were for “dangerous” unrepaired safety issues such as unintended acceleration, airbag problems, vehicle fires, steering, and brake loss.

    More than half of the dealerships involved in the investigation are located in the Syracuse, Watertown, and Binghamton areas, according to a news release that the office of New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman issued Friday afternoon.
