The 2nd annual Family Business Awards of CNY recognizes thriving family businesses who have nurtured our community through their generosity of time, financial support, and dedication. The purpose of creating the Family Business Awards of CNY is to emphasize the heritage that is passed down from generation to generation and the obligation that business leaders have in ensuring its continuity.
Our goal is to draw attention to these individuals and/or organizations in Central New York, Mohawk Valley, Greater Binghamton, the Finger Lakes, and the North Country. They will be honored at an awards recognition event on December 1, as well as profiled in the event special section of the CNY Business Journal Commemorative Publication.
Eligibility: Nominees are limited to companies headquartered in or with a substantial presence in the following counties: Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Seneca, St. Lawrence, Tioga, and Tompkins.

AWARD CATEGORY & DEFINITIONS
Director of the Year (under 40): recognizes the younger generation of family business directors and those individuals that have made a significant impact within their organization.
Multi-Generational Family Business of the Year: established family businesses that span two generations or more, across all industry sectors that can demonstrate sustained success and growth.
Family Business of the Year: established family businesses across all industry sectors that demonstrate sustained success and growth.
Employer of the Year: family businesses that strive to be an employer of choice and put their people at the heart of the organization.
Fastest Growing Family Business: family businesses that have demonstrated strong and sustained growth within a 2-year span.
Manufacturing Excellence: family businesses across all manufacturing related industries that can demonstrate success and a clear focus of how manufacturing has contributed to their success in a broad range of measures.
Creative Services Excellence: family business excelling in creative professions involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional materials and programs, and emerging technologies that demonstrate success in a broad range of measures.
Community Services Excellence: family business excelling in either direct charitable gifts, community support initiatives, service within the community, volunteer efforts and overall excellence in supporting the needs of the CNY community.
Technical Services Excellence: family business leading in the technology profession, acknowledging achievements and professional growth in technological industries and a clear focus to their success in a broad range of measures.
Media Services Excellence: family business leading business in various media related professions such as radio, television, print, digital, and social media professions showing a clear focus to their success in a broad range of measures.
International Development: family businesses from all sectors and for both new and established exporters, that are succeeding in developing overseas markets.
Business Innovation: family businesses with a commitment to innovation, whether in developing new products and services or enhancing service delivery, production or working practices.
Up & Coming Family Business: recognizes a family business of any size showing astounding growth within their business. Must be in business for a minimum of five years.
Veteran Owned: recognizes a veteran owned family business leader who has served in the armed forces and has become a successful entrepreneur.

Nomination Items Needed: Nominee Contact Info: name, company name, address, phone #, email.
Supporting Documents: (NOT mandatory but encouraged) to highlight and provide proof of achievements to include referral letters, resumes, certificates, awards, news articles, letters of recommendations, photos, etc. (Please note that these can be uploaded at the end of the nomination form).
Prepared Responses: You will be asked to answer a few questions about the nominee.

The nomination and supporting documents should reflect and answer the following questions:
1. Explain why you think this person and/or company is deserving of a nomination.
2. Business accomplishments (specific achievements, special projects, business-related affiliations).
3. Civic leadership (What impact has this person and/or company had on their community).
4. Achievements, awards, and special recognitions.
