    SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse University announced it is offering a voluntary, employee-buyout program to some staff members as it seeks to reduce the size of its workforce.

    The university is calling it a “voluntary separation incentive program” for “qualifying non-faculty, benefits-eligible staff,” according to a news release posted Tuesday on the school’s website.

  • OCM BOCES to open Cortland tech high school in Fall 2016

    CORTLAND, N.Y. — The Onondaga-Cortland-Madison Board of Cooperative Educational Services (OCM BOCES) will open a new tech high school in Cortland in September 2016.

    OCM BOCES will locate the new school, which does not yet have a name, at 240 Port Watson St. in Cortland, the organization said in a news release issued Monday.

    The school will serve area high-school students in grades 9 through 12.

    It will provide a learning environment that aims to improve students’ college and career readiness through “project-based learning, collaborative workspace and technology,” OCM BOCES said.

  • Schneiderman: Legal Docs by Me must pay back consumers “victimized” by firm’s “illegal” business practices

    SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A judge ordered Legal Docs by Me to pay back certain customers by close of business last Friday “after failing to comply with an order to do so last October.”  

    New York State Supreme Court also ordered the company, which is now known as NextGenJustice, to turn over a full accounting of those consumers.

    NexGenJustice is the “doing business as” name of Legal Docs by Me, according to a disclaimer on the firm’s website.

  • FAA awards $760K grant to Syracuse Hancock International Airport

    SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse Hancock International Airport will use a federal grant of more than $762,000 to purchase snow-removal equipment and for runway improvements.

    The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded the grant funding, according to a news release that the office of U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D–N.Y.) issued Thursday.

    The runway improvements will involve “removing obstructions.”

    It is one of seven mayoral appointments to the governing board of Syracuse Hancock International Airport, Miner’s office said in a news release.
