  • Verizon to add 100 jobs in Syracuse area

    DeWITT, N.Y. — Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ) today announced plans to add about 100 employees at its Fiber Solutions Center on Thompson Road in DeWitt.

    The hiring will boost the center’s current workforce of 380 to 480, according to a company spokesman. Verizon is recruiting to fill 100 fiber customer-support analyst positions.

    VESTAL —The Dr. G. Clifford & Florence B. Decker Foundation has donated $333,901 to Binghamton University to buy equipment used in biology research.

    The gift allowed the university to purchase a fluorescence-activated cell sorter. This key piece of equipment, typically used in cellular biology and microbiology research, will help establish the Health Sciences Core Facility, Binghamton University said in a news release.

    COOPERSTOWN — The board of trustees of Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown has appointed Dr. Vance Brown as president and CEO of the Bassett Healthcare Network and Bassett Medical Center, effective July 1.

    Dr. Brown comes to Bassett from Portland, Maine–based MaineHealth, where he has been chief medical officer since 2008, Bassett said in a news release.

    ONEONTA — Ioxus, a manufacturer of ultracapacitor technology, on Monday announced the opening of its second manufacturing facility in Oneonta.

    Ioxus built the facility to meet demand from customers in China, the company said in a news release.

    The 22,000-square-foot plant, located near the Ioxus headquarters, increases capacity for both electrode manufacturing and module assembly to meet demands for Ioxus products worldwide.
