    Snow Dragon Corp. and i3Assemblies Inc. are among 39 startup companies that have joined the START-UP NY program.

    START-UP NY stands for SUNY Tax-free Areas to Revitalize and Transform Upstate NY.

    Under the program, which launched in October 2013, businesses can operate tax-free for 10 years on eligible land and space. Businesses partner with colleges and have access to industry experts and advanced-research laboratories, according to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office.

  • WCNY Public Media hires Geiger as VP, COO

    SYRACUSE, N.Y. — WCNY Public Media has announced the hiring of Chris Geiger to the “newly created role” of executive VP and COO, effective Tuesday.

    In this role, Geiger will work with WCNY president and CEO Robert Daino on a “broad-based expansion” of the company.

    That will involve developing new revenue-generating “enterprises;” expanding program production to the national level; and working toward creating “a new, more entrepreneurial model” for nonprofit public broadcasting, WCNY said in a news release.

  • State Inspector General: Psychiatric nurse arrested for using forged doctor note to take time off work

    MARCY, N.Y. — A psychiatric nurse at the Central New York Psychiatric Center is under arrest, accused of using a forged doctor’s certificate to allow “extended work absences without repercussions.”

    New York State Police have arrested Russell Angell, 43, of Yorkville in Oneida County, the office of New York State Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott said in a news release.
