  • Cuomo: employers will save $45M on workers’-compensation costs in 2015

    New York employers won’t have pay to pay as much into the state’s workers’-compensation system in 2015, resulting in savings to all employers totaling $45 million.

    The state is decreasing the assessment rate to 13.2 percent, down from 13.8 percent, representing the “second consecutive annual decline.”

    Gov. Andrew Cuomo made the announcement in a news release his office distributed on Friday morning.

  • People news: Everson Museum announces new chief development officer

    SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Everson Museum of Art has appointed Mary Jo Barnello as the museum’s new chief development officer, effective Nov. 17.

    Barnello replaces Samara Hannah, who was the Everson’s director of development for nearly three years, the museum said in a news release. Barnello was selected after a two-month long search led by Sarah Massett, the Everson’s interim director, and Cliff Malzman, its board of trustees development committee chair.

  • Marist Poll: Cuomo leads by 26 points in re-election bid

    New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo appears to be cruising toward winning a second term in next Tuesday’s election, according to a new poll issued today.

    Democratic incumbent Cuomo leads his Republican challenger, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino by 56 percent to 30 percent among likely voters, according to the new NBC 4 New York/The Wall Street Journal/Marist Poll. Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins, of Syracuse, received the support of 6 percent, while 7 percent were undecided.

    The same poll in late September found Cuomo leading Astorino by 25 percentage points.

    NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. — PAR Technology Corp. (NYSE: PAR) on Thursday reported a net loss of $109,000, or 1 cent per share, during the third quarter that ended Sept. 30.
