Officials continuing efforts to stop Auburn plant shutdown

AUBURN  —  Daikin McQuay isn’t backing away today from plans to close a manufacturing plant it operates in Auburn, even as the city’s mayor undertakes a second day of efforts to try to keep the facility from shuttering.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo today announced an agreement between the state and the Oneida Indian Nation that will have the Nation paying the state an estimated $50 million a year in Turning Stone Resort & Casino revenue in return for a guarantee that no other casinos are built in Central New York.

New York’s unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent in April from 8.2 percent in March, hitting its lowest level since March 2009. That’s according to preliminary figures the New York State Department of Labor released today.
