Shared Work program retained 3,300 jobs, NY state estimates

Employers in New York avoided cutting more than 3,000 jobs in 2012 by using a shared work program, with Central New York and the Mohawk Valley each being home to about 250 preserved positions, the Department of Labor said Tuesday.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced an agreement between the state and the St. Regis Mohawk tribe to resolve a three-year dispute over gaming issues.

Under the agreement, the state will remove the eight-county Saint Regis Mohawk exclusivity zone from the proposed casino-siting legislation. The tribe will also pay the state $30 million in payments owed and 25 percent of future gaming revenues.

SYRACUSE — U.S. Representative Daniel Maffei (D–DeWitt) today announced he is seeking feedback from business owners in Central New York on ways to spur growth and hiring.

Maffei has released a 22-question online survey that includes questions about the challenges business owners face and what they need to grow and create more jobs, Maffei’s office said in a news release.
