Rombel on Business report on the September jobs data

On Oct. 5, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that U.S. employers added 114,000 jobs in September, on par with economists’ expectations. The shocker was that the unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent in September from 8.1 percent in August. Forecasters had been expecting the rate to rise to 8.2 percent.

In this video report, I look deeper behind the numbers of the September employment report.

That includes broader measures of unemployment, labor-force participation rates, wage growth, and revisions to the August and July jobs reports.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo today announced an agreement between the state and the Oneida Indian Nation that will have the Nation paying the state an estimated $50 million a year in Turning Stone Resort & Casino revenue in return for a guarantee that no other casinos are built in Central New York.

New York’s unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent in April from 8.2 percent in March, hitting its lowest level since March 2009. That’s according to preliminary figures the New York State Department of Labor released today.
