Welch Allyn to cut 275 jobs globally over three years

Welch Allyn plans to cut its global workforce by 10 percent over three years as part of a companywide restructuring.

The medical device manufacturer, headquartered in Skaneateles Falls, currently employs 2,750 people in 26 countries. It had more than 1,200 workers in Skaneateles Falls as of this spring. Planned staffing reductions will be voluntary and involuntary, the company said in a news release.

New York’s unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent in April from 8.2 percent in March, hitting its lowest level since March 2009. That’s according to preliminary figures the New York State Department of Labor released today.
