SBA program supports nearly $6.7 million in local loans

 

Three years into the program, the U.S. Small Business Administration has supported nearly $500 million in Patriot Express loans to more than 6,000 veterans and their spouses.

In that time period, the SBA district office in Syracuse backed 86 loans totaling nearly $6.7 million, according to the office, which covers a 34-county area of upstate New York.


Syracuse one of 16 areas nationwide adding construction jobs

 

The Syracuse area added 300 construction jobs between May 2009 and May 2010, making it one of only 16 metropolitan areas nationwide that added construction jobs during the period.

The Utica-Rome and Binghamton areas both lost 100 construction jobs during the 12-month period.


MVCC receives $2.8 million grant for worker training

 

Mohawk Valley Community College received a $2.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to help prepare workers for careers in cyber security.

Part of the fifth and final round of Community-Based Job Training Grant awards, the money is part of $125 million awarded to 41 community colleges and organizations.


Oneida County Tourism launches new website

 

The visitors and tourists that spend $951 million a year in Oneida County now have a new way to plan their next trip.

Trainor Associates of New Hartford designed a new website to help visitors plan trips to the region. It targets regional, national, and international visitors and tourists with an interest in Oneida County.


Federal grant to help build health-information exchange

 

U.S. Rep. Daniel Maffei (D-DeWitt) today announced $900,000 in federal funding to help connect prominent Syracuse-area health-care providers to an electronic health-information exchange.

The funding will help launch "HealtheConnections," Central New York's regional health-information organization (RHIO), which is a policy-making body for the electronic information exchange.
