SU wins award for use of Ensemble Video

 

A company based on work done at Syracuse University (SU) helped the school win an award for technology innovation.

SU is one of 11 winners of the sixth annual Campus Technology magazine Campus Technology Innovators Award. The awards recognize colleges and universities for excellence in using technology.


Wireless Grids, Summerhill Biomass partnering on pilot project

 

Wireless Grids Corp. and Summerhill Biomass Systems announced a partnership today involving smart-grid technology.

Wireless Grids will deploy its software product for automated control of Summerhill's biomass energy systems at several locations in New York. The product will allow Summerhill's systems to be managed and share information through mobile devices.


Consulting firm acquires Cortland web hosting company

 

Plan First Technologies of Homer, a computer and network consulting firm, has acquired Odyssey Networks of Cortland.

Odyssey has been providing Internet service and web hosting in the Cortland area since 1995. Plan First launched in 2006 and provides computer and network services for business clients throughout Central New York.


New programs target business development on Near Westside

 

The Near Westside Initiative is launching four new programs to spark growth and encourage business development in the city's Near Westside neighborhood.

The new projects include creation of a micro-lending program, formation of a business association, a peer mentoring program, and an entrepreneurship training program. They are the result of recommendations from the Near Westside Initiative's Small Business Development Committee.


Paychex profit rises in fourth quarter, declines in fiscal year 2010

 

Paychex, Inc. (NASDAQ: PAYX) announced Wednesday it earned $115 million in its fiscal fourth quarter, up 2 percent from the same quarter a year ago.

Diluted earnings per share of 32 cents were "flat" compared to the same quarter in 2009, the company said in a news release. The firm's fiscal fourth quarter ended May 31.
