Ethanol production restarts at Sunoco plant

by Kevin Tampone

7/21/2010 11:02:00 AM

Sunoco, Inc. has restarted the former Northeast Biofuels plant, and the company says ethanol production could be a big part of its future.
Sunoco bought the plant in a bankruptcy auction last year for $8.5 million. Northeast Biofuels, LP filed for bankruptcy protection in January 2009.

The plant, located at the former Miller brewery in Volney, can produce 100 million gallons of ethanol a year when operating at full capacity. That's enough to supply about one-quarter of Sunoco's ethanol needs.
