Former employees of Fulton’s Birds Eye plant can apply for federal aid

FULTON — Almost 300 workers who lost their jobs when the Birds Eye plant in Fulton shuttered Dec. 16 will be able to apply for federal-government money for training, job search and income support, relocation allowances, and other assistance.

EAST SYRACUSE — A 25-year employee of East Syracuse Chevrolet has assumed ownership of the business, the automobile dealership announced today.

Gino Barbuto, who started working as a service adviser at East Syracuse Chevrolet in 1986, is now the company’s dealer-operator.

State social worker in Tompkins County admits to working out on state time

ITHACA - Working out a lot didn’t work out for one state social worker in Tompkins County whose habit of exercising on state time landed him in legal trouble.

Jeffrey Bieder, a former licensed master social worker with the State Office for People with Development Disabilities, pleaded guilty on Dec. 21 to first-degree falsifying business records before Tompkins County Court Judge John C. Rowley.
