Union approves new contract with SU

 

Members of the Service Employees International Union on Wednesday approved a new three-year contract between their union and Syracuse University (SU).

SEIU Local 200United is the largest union at the university, representing more than 800 workers. The negotiation process began in early May.


Maffei, Gillibrand want EPA leading Onondaga Lake cleanup

 

U.S. Rep. Daniel Maffei (D-DeWitt) today announced a proposal that would put the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in charge of the cleanup of Onondaga Lake.
U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) is introducing a similar bill in her chamber.

The lawmakers outlined their proposal, which would officially be known as the Onondaga Lake Restoration Act, during a press conference at Syracuse's Inner Harbor.


SU, Cornell become founding partners of UVC

Upstate Venture Connect (UVC), a nonprofit aiming to encourage the development and growth of more small, innovative companies in upstate New York, has new partnerships with Cornell University and Syracuse University (SU).


SU wins award for use of Ensemble Video

 

A company based on work done at Syracuse University (SU) helped the school win an award for technology innovation.

SU is one of 11 winners of the sixth annual Campus Technology magazine Campus Technology Innovators Award. The awards recognize colleges and universities for excellence in using technology.


State budget delay causes cuts at BCC

 

The late state budget and proposed budget cuts are wreaking havoc on community colleges across the state, and Broome Community College is no exception.

With expected enrollment growth of anywhere from 5 percent to 10 percent for this coming fall, BCC President Kevin Drumm says the school is stuck without resources to fill vacant positions or expand services because of the late budget.
