The U.S. Department of Energy awarded more than $560,000 to a project led by Syracuse University (SU) aimed at helping building designers create more energy-efficient structures.

The money will help establish a virtual design studio that will allow designers to evaluate architectural and mechanical measures to increase energy savings in commercial and residential buildings. The project is led by Jensen Zhang of SU's L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science and Michael Pelken of SU's School of Architecture.
