The Utica-Rome lost 400 construction jobs, while the Binghamton area lost 100 construction jobs during the same stretch.

Carrier Corp. today announced plans to invest $30 million in its DeWitt site, which now serves as the company's largest research and development center.
At the same time, the firm said it will relocate the chiller-testing laboratory at the site to a location in Charlotte, N.C. to "better support customers." The move will affect six Carrier employees.
The newly announced investment in DeWitt is an expansion of a $5 million redevelopment plan announced in November 2007. It included the elimination of 450,000 square feet of excess space on Route 298, which "is expected to be completed shortly," Carrier said in a statement.
